A choice is hard when the options available are on a ‘par’ (equal or similar in weight)
A choice becomes hard because of the way the alternatives relate to one another, when they're typically similar in what they can offer us. A choice is easy when one option is better than the other one. A hard choice is hard when one option is better in some ways, while the other is better in other ways, but neither is undeniably better than the other overall. It's important to note that our choices are weighed on emotional value and not quantitative measures — so unlike comparing numbers with values of ‘less than,’ ‘greater than,’ or ‘equal to,' our decisions are diverse and involve factors that cannot be formulated in such a numerical way.
